My professors had it all wrong
When I was pursuing my MBA, one message was drilled into every course: Maximize shareholder value. This, they said, was the core purpose of business and our responsibility as future business leaders. While I understood the logic—after all, business is about making money—it never quite resonated with me as a meaningful goal.
